Mission of GCC CIGRE?
 
 

Welcome to GCC-CIGRE

GCC-Cigre was established under the umbrella of the Gulf Cooperative Council in accordance with a recommendation from their Excellencies GCC Ministers of Electricity & Water during their second meeting held in Kuwait on 22nd April  1985

under the patronage and auspices of Gulf Cooperative Council. The GCC’s General Secretariat, together with the Secretary General, of the International Council for large  Electric Systems “CIGRE” drafted the Committee’s basic law. The Committee, a non- profit institution, is an affiliate of the International Council and is mainly devoted to encourage and develop scientific researches and studies in the field of Electricity Systems


  
Aim  

GCC CIGRE is one of the leading organizations on Electric Power Systems, covering their technical, economic, environmental, organizationaland regulatory aspects
A permanent, Regional Committee based in Qatar, GCC-CIGRE was founded in 1985 and aims to:

> Facilitate and develop the exchange of engineering knowledge and information, between engineering personnel and technical specialists in all GCC Countries as regards generation and high voltage transmission of electricity.
> Add value to the knowledge and information exchanged by synthesizing state-of-the-art and world practices.
> Make managers, decision-makers and regulators aware of the synthesis of GCC-CIGRE's work, in the area of electric power.
More specifically, issues related to planning and operation of power systems, as well as design, construction, maintenance and disposal of HV equipment and plants are at the core of  GCC-CIGRE's mission. Problems related to protection of power systems, telecontrol, telecommunication equipment and information systems are also part of GCC-CIGRE's area of concern. 
 

  
  
Activities 
GCC-CIGRE develops technical knowledge using two methods: conferences and meetings, where papers are produced and discussed, and permanent Study Committees, working on technical subjects and publishing reports.
> The Annual Conference "GCC Power" held in one the GCC Countries is the most important GCC-CIGRE event: It brings together some 500 delegates from all the parts of the world and more than 50papers, covering all the fields of GCC CIGRE, are discussed.
> Other meetings are held at country level or at Region level.

> Presently 4 Study Committees are active, each dealing with a technical field of the Power Industry. Their work, carried out by Working goups and Task Forces, is coordinated by the Technical Committee of GCC-CIGRE. Altogether more than 100 experts are involved in these Working Bodies.

Conference 2010

It is our pleasure to inform you that the 8th Regional Conference for National Committees of Cigre in Arab Countries, hosted by “GCC Power 2010 Conference & Exhibition”, which will be held in Doha-Qatar October.2010. . The Conference will offer delegates the opportunity to discuss the latest trends, challenges, developments and strategies to meet the region's rapidly expanding energy needs through a series of panel and technical sessions. Government decision-makers, leading regional and international power companies and respected industry advisors will attend to share past experiences, exchange ideas and get up to date on the latest scientific research.

The Conference will also provide delegates with a unique opportunity to enhance cooperation and collaboration throughout the region and will promote competitiveness and efficiency in the electricity industry.
